Terms of Service
Effective October 3, 2026.
Carvable Signs is a service of Printable Names LLC, an LLC formed under Massachusetts law. When this page says “we” or “us”, it means that company. By using carvablesigns.com you agree to what follows, so it's worth a few minutes. We kept it short on purpose.
Signing in
Accounts use Google sign-in. Anything done while signed in to your account counts as done by you, so look after the Google account behind it. Each email address gets its welcome credits once. Opening extra accounts to collect more of them, or misusing the service in other ways, is grounds for closing those accounts.
The account page lets you close your account at any time. That can't be undone: your saved designs and bought sign files are removed, and any unspent credits are lost.
Credits, prices, and payment
Sign files are paid for with credits, which come in packs. Stripe processes the payment and is the seller of record (merchant of record) for each pack, which means it also works out and collects any sales tax, and its own terms apply to the purchase. Your card number goes to Stripe, never to us.
Credits never expire. They aren't cash, can't be cashed out, and can't be moved to another account. Purchases of credits are final, spent or not, unless a law that applies to you requires otherwise. The one automatic exception: if we fail to build a sign file you spent credits on, those credits are returned to your balance without you having to ask.
We may change prices from time to time. A new price never touches the credits already in your account or a sign you've already paid for.
The files you get
Paying for a sign gets you its download: vector drawings (DXF and SVG) of the sign's cuts, a picture of the finished sign, and a written cutting recipe. It remains on your account page, ready to download again any time while the account exists.
The files are designs, not machine instructions. We don't make G-code or toolpaths. You turn the drawings into toolpaths in your own CAM program, with your own bits, feeds, speeds, and post-processor. The recipe's depths and bit choices are suggestions to start from; check them against your board, your bits, and your machine before you cut.
What the license allows
Each sign you pay for comes with a license that lets you:
- carve it any number of times, for your home, your shop, or as gifts;
- sell the carved signs, as many as you make, at craft shows, online, or to customers who order them from you.
The license doesn't let you:
- sell, share, post, or hand over the files themselves, or edited versions of them, to anyone, including the DXF and SVG drawings and the recipe;
- use the site to build up a stock of sign files that others can download or buy.
All of our lettering comes from open-licensed fonts (SIL OFL or the Apache License, version 2.0), and those licenses permit everything listed above.
Your words
The words you put on a sign belong to you. You allow us to store and process them only for drawing your previews and building your files.
Don't put anything on a sign you aren't entitled to use. Business names, team names, and slogans can be trademarks, and carving them for sale may need the owner's permission; getting it is your job, not ours. Designs that infringe on someone else's rights or break the law may be removed.
Your machine, your shop, your safety
A CNC router, its spindle or router, and its bits can hurt people and can damage themselves and the work. Everything that happens at your machine is your responsibility: the toolpaths you create, the feeds and speeds you choose, how you hold the board down, checking the toolpaths before cutting, dust collection, eye and hearing protection, and staying with the machine while it runs.
We check each design before you buy it and build the files with care, but we can't see your machine, your bits, or your wood, and we can't promise a particular result. We offer the site and its files on an “as is” basis and disclaim every warranty, express or implied, as far as the law lets us.
Limits on our liability
As far as applicable law permits, we aren't liable for damage to your machine, bits, spoilboard, workholding, or material, for injury to anyone, or for any indirect, incidental, or consequential loss arising from the files or from carving them. In any case, our total liability for a claim is capped at the amount you spent with us during the year before it.
If these terms change
We may revise these terms. Before a significant change takes effect, we'll announce it on the site, and continuing to use the site after that means you accept the new version. Accounts that break these terms may be suspended or closed. The laws of Massachusetts, USA, govern these terms.
